Connecting with the Community
|
|
MCSBA has throughout its existence served as a tie to the
greater community--building relationships and coalitions, sharing our
concerns about major issues, and telling the story of the great programs and
services offered by our public schools. |

In April 1992 MCSBA hosted a Mall Education
Show at the Marketplace Mall in Henrietta. Most member
districts used this opportunity to display their fine programs
through interactive displays, performances, and even a
real transported classroom. Shown here is a Brighton
student discussing some of Brighton's physics projects with
a visitor.
RIGHT: MCSBA has always strived to maintain contacts
with the electronic and print media, to ensure that both
reporters and management have background information
essential for accurate reporting. Much of this contact is
an ongoing responsibility of staff but officers also play a
part when particular issues arise. Shown here MCSBA
President Nick Gangemi is interviewed by WXXI reporter
Walter Gabalski at MCSBA's media seminar in 1995. |

When needed MCSBA has hosted media conferences to highlight school board
stands on controversial issues.
Shown here at a January 2003 conference called to describe the effects
of the Governor's proposed budget on public
schools is MCSBA President Sherry Johnson (Churchville-Chili School
Board) at the microphone.
With her are Marcia Behncke (Director, Alliance for Quality Education),
Ray Brown (Pittsford School Board), Manuel
Rivera (Rochester Superintendent), Dr. James Bowers (Rochester School
Board), George Moses (President, Alliance
for Quality Education), Alan Shaffer (Pittsford School Board, Monroe
County School Business Officials), Tom Gillett
(NYSUT Regional Staff Director), and Christopher Manaseri (Chairperson,
