Who can be a school board member?
 

Who can be a school board member?

Anyone who is:
A U.S. citizen, and
At least 18 years of age, and
Able to read and write, and
A district resident for one year prior to the election, and
Not employed by the board on which the member sits.
 

How do you become a school board member?

Submit a petition signed by 2% of the district’s eligible voters to the
district office by a predetermined and publicized date (contact district clerk).

Campaign among eligible voters before election day (3rd Tuesday
each May in suburban and small city districts; November election day
for Rochester City School District).

Prepare to serve for a 5-year term in Brockport, a 4-year term in Rochester,
and a 3-year term in all other Monroe County districts.
